SHAFER VINEYARDS/ RUTHERFORD RANCH TUESDAY NIGHT WINE TASTING
SHAFER VINEYARDS
Shafer Vineyards traces its beginnings to 1972 when John Shafer left a 23-year career in the publishing industry and, with his family, moved to the Napa Valley to pursue a second career in wine. After purchasing a 210-acre estate in Napa Valley's Stags Leap District, the Shafer family faced the arduous task of replanting the existing vineyards, which dated to the 1920s, and terracing the steep and rocky hillsides, eventually expanding vineyard acreage to its current 50 acres.
Evolving from grape growers to vintners, the Shafers crushed their first Cabernet grapes in 1978 and began construction on their winery a year later.
The first Shafer Cabernet became a benchmark, winning the acclaimed San Francisco Vintners Club taste-off upon release and, over a decade later taking first place in an international blind tasting held in Germany, where it outranked such wines as Chateau Margaux, Chateau Latour and Chateau Palmer.
Doug Shafer became winemaker in 1983 after graduating from the University of California at Davis with a degree in enology and viticulture. A year later Elias Fernandez joined the winery as assistant winemaker. Together Doug and Elias have worked closely to forge the Shafer style of quality, consistency and elegance.
SHAFER ONE POINT FIVE CABERNET SAUVIGNON 2006
Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar 91+ points : "Bright, medium ruby-red. Expressive, rather wild nose melds cassis, black cherry, tobacco, iron, mocha, leather and brown spices. A bit less plump than the 2005 version, but suave and vinous, with good cut and life to the varietally typical flavors of currant, leather, mocha and tobacco leaf. This slightly restrained, soil-driven wine still needs time to unwind and will merit a higher score if time brings more pliancy. Finishes with firm, building tannins and sneaky length."
Wine Enthusiast 90 points : "Sourced primarily from two Stags Leap Districts - the famed Hillside estate and the Borderline vineyard - this generation-and-a-half idea is a great selection for Shafer lovers who might not be able to indulge in the Hillside Select (or can't get their hands on a bottle). Sweet blackberry, plum and current fruit aromas and flavors are complemented by nuances of savory herbs, cocoa and cigar box (complete with cigars!)."
Winery Notes: "Aromas of pure, elegant
black fruit, dark chocolate,
and spice, followed by rich, juicy flavors of blackberry
and black cherry, chocolate, and cedar, with ripe,
smooth tannins and a long finish."

SHAFER MERLOT 2006
Wine Enthusiast 95 points : "Easily Shafers greatest Merlot ever. Certainly its richest, with fabulously concentrated blackberry, cherry, licorice, chocolate and cinnamon spice flavors. All this is wrapped into extraordinarily sweet, refined tannins. Addictively drinkable, but not a long ager. Best now and through 2012."
Stephen Tanzer's International Wine
Cellar 90 points : "Very good deep ruby-red color.
Medicinal black
cherry, licorice and flowers on the slightly high-toned
nose, along with a suggestion of cherry skin. Dense,
sweet and fruity in the mouth if still a bit youthfully tight,
with a slight medicinal quality to the flavors of dark
berries, black cherry and licorice. Finishes smooth
and long, with firm tannins. I'd give this a year before
pulling the cork."

SHAFER RELENTLESS 2006
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate 92-94 points : "The 2006 Relentless may be even better. It possesses an opaque purple hue as well as a grapy, smoky perfume displaying scents of roasted meats, blackberries, licorice, and charcoal. This packed and stacked, full-bodied 2006 should drink beautifully for 10-15 years."
Wine Spectator 90 points : 'Dense, rich
and
chewy, with tightly wound mineral, graphite, plum and
berry flavors that are full-blown and concentrated. This
gains depth and nuance on the finish, while retaining
its structure and focus. Syrah and Petite Sirah. Drink

This Sauvignon Blanc is crisp and refreshing. It has

BODEGAS NEKEAS/ VEGA SINDOA
WINES
Nekeas is one of the northern most vineyards on the peninsula. Cultivation of the grapes is only possible thanks to the presence of the Sierra Perdon, which provides a mountainous barrier protecting the Nekeas Valley from the cold winds of the Pyrenees.
The valley is also caressed by the moderating influences of the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean, whose essence flows up the Ebro Valley. This climate would be difficult to find elsewhere on the Iberian peninsula.
These factors results in a number of microclimes in the valley, each favoring a particular variety of grapes, such as a Grenache, Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot, all used to produce the excellent red wines and Viura, Chardonnay, and Muscatel, used for the succulent white wines.
Robert Parker has said of the vineyard "Bodegas Nekeas has emerged as one of the World's Best Value Wineries, and it is hard to believe the prices of some of their wines."
The cordiality of the people is deeply-rooted in the Nekeas valley. They are content to let the rich wines they produce speak for them.
VEGA SINDOA CHARDONNAY 2007
Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar 89
points: "Yellow-gold. Exotic, highly expressive
bouquet of spicy melon, white peach, lees, marzipan
and jasmine. Silky orchard and pit fruit flavors are
given spine by zesty acidity and pick up a brown butter
note with air. Impressively complex chardonnay with
good finishing breadth and sweet persistence. You

2005 BORDEAUX WINE TASTING
The 2005 Bordeaux Vintage wine has received such high reviews that demand for the wine continues to rise rapidly. We were fortunately able to get a few cases of some great wines and are able to get them to you at a great price that you will find are one of the best prices anywhere.
Acclaimed wine critic, Robert Parker has described the 2005 Bordeaux vintage as being "the greatest vintage produced during my 30 year career" and this is his assessment of the Vintage along with the different regions of Bordeaux.
"Historically, the finest Bordeaux vintages (including 2000, 1990, 1982, 1961, 1959, 1949, 1947 and 1945) have resulted from dry, hot weather in the summer and fall. And while Bordeaux experienced relatively severe, even drought like conditions in 2005, there were no periods of torrid heat, even in July, August and September. Other notable facts about the 2005 wines: They have some of the highest tannin levels in modern-day red Bordeaux, extremely high levels of dry extract (in other words, these are seriously concentrated wines), high alcohol levels (even higher than 2003-a vintage of record alcohol levels) and moderate acid levels (which give the best wines a fresh, lively, almost tangy character). Overall, the 2005 Bordeaux have turned out brilliantly, and 2005 does appear to be one of the most singular years of the past five decades.
Standouts of the 2005 vintage include the Graves region on the Left Bank and the Right Bank appellations of Pomerol and St-Émilion. In all three of these areas, the wines are concentrated, massive and high in tannin. However, because there is very little Cabernet Sauvignon in most of the blends (Merlot and Cabernet Franc are the favored grapes, especially in Pomerol and St-Émilion), the tannins are sweeter and the wines more approachable. In fact, many of the wines will offer compelling drinking in six to eight years, although they will continue to evolve for three decades or more. Another advantage these wines possess is that the lower-level St-Émilion and Graves offerings will not be nearly as expensive as the more famous and aristocratic names of the northern Médoc.
The 2005 wines were especially tannic in the northern Médoc communes of St-Julien, Pauillac and St- Estèphe. But, unlike the best wines of 1982, 1989 and 1990, most of the 2005s will not be approachable for 10 to 15 years-at minimum. However, past experience suggests they will require many years of cellaring-30 to 50 years, in fact. The good news is that even these tannic monsters are fresh, concentrated and well balanced.
CHATEAU LAROQUE SAINT-EMILION 2005
Wine Spectator 91 points : "Black in color. Gorgeous aromas of crushed blackberry, violet and dark chocolate lead to a full- bodied palate, with powerful, chewy tannins and loads of beautiful fresh fruit. Very extracted, but this should mellow with time. Best after 2015. 9,330 cases made."
Wine Enthusiast 91 points: "Big, rich and
elegant, this wine has fine, lifted black
fruits layered over dry new wood and fruit tannins. It is
certainly firm, and needs at least 45 years aging,
but
it will develop into a sophisticated, balanced wine."
Reg $39.99 . . . PEARSON'S TASTING NIGHT

CHATEAU DE PEZ SAINT-ESTEPHE 2005
Created in the 15th century, Pez is the oldest domaine in Saint Estèphe. The Pontac family, who also created Haut-Brion, gave Pez its vineyards. The domaine was sold as a property of the state after the French Revolution and owned by a succession of families before it was purchased by Champagne Louis Roederer in 1995.
Located west of the town of Saint-Estèphe, Château de Pez consists of 74 continuous acres, with 59 acres planted to prime grape varieties, mainly Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Wine from St-Estèphe typically matures more slowly than its southern counterparts. The soil is heavy and rich with clay, leading to wines with firm tannins and high acidity.
Wine Spectator 88 points: "Lots of smoky wood, with currant and spice that follow through to a medium-to-full body, with medium tannins and a crisp finish. Best after 2009. 12,500 cases made."
Winery Notes:
"The 2005 vintage is dense in color, retaining a
purplish-blue hint typical of wines that are slow to
develop. The slightly toasty nose has plenty of red-
and black- berry fruit and a hint of jamminess mingled
with aromas of spice and tobacco. The nose is
reminiscent of the 2004 vintage and is what you would
expect of a wine made from very ripe grapes.
It is already deliciously complex. The palate is entirely
consistent with the nose. The attack is still firm at this
stage but developing in a manner that instantly
suggests an opulent wine. Good, well-rounded
substance lingers elegantly on the palate, with silky
tannins and not a trace of harshness. This is truly an
exceptional wine: thoroughbred, elegant and rich."

SALE PRICE . . . $29.99
CHATEAU VIEUX LAPEYRE SAINT-EMILION
2005
Winery Notes: "Winemaking in Bordeaux
and the temperature control
allows optimum extraction. The pumping is performed
several times a day until, taste, we judge that the
potential has been extracted. A vat of twenty days will
always monitored by sampling taste. After malolactic
fermentation, the wine is racked and sang in oak
barrels. Livestock itself will start and last between 18
and 24 months. A taste will be constant monitoring for
any breeding. The goal is not to make a decoction of
oak. Oxygen passes through the wood which
enhances the wine's tannins, from ennobling the
wine, making them more flexible, more harmonious.
Depending on the choice of hot barrels during
manufacture, the aromas of fruit, vanilla and toast will
be highlighted.
This wine has deep color flickering reflections of
garnet. The bouquet, intense and complex, consists of
a set of red fruit flavors and tobacco, wood and
discreet prune confit. The structure, ample and
generous, is supported by velvety tannins. A very good
persistence is accompanied by a return fruity and
smoky. His balance and personality are a real wine
storage which can promise a bright future in a good
cellar."

CHATEAU COTE MONTPEZAT COTES DE CASTILLON 2005
Wine Advocate 89 points: "Another sleeper of the vintage, this deep ruby/purple-colored wine possesses sweet floral, cranberry and blackberry notes along with a hint of cold steel. Medium-bodied, ripe, and forward, with loads of fruit, glycerin, and soft tannin, it should be consumed during its first 7-8 years of life."
Winery Notes: "Ideal with red meats,
game,
dishes with sauce such as lamprey, stew, and certain
cheeses. Elaborated with a double ambition, it will be
very pleasant to drink young but its soil of origin
however will allows you to keep it, 10-15 more years."

PATRICIA GREEN CELLARS
Patricia Green Cellars is located in the Ribbon Ridge district of Yamhill County on the 52 acre estate purchased in 2000 by Patty Green and Jim Anderson. The winery, and thus the two friends, are noted for producing a tremendously broad selection of Pinot Noirs from far flung vineyards representing some of the better sites in the Ribbon Ridge, Dundee Hills, Chehalem Mountains, and the Eola Hills growing regions. We look to produce Pinot Noirs that show the distinctions of the sites we work with. All of the vineyards we either maintain or purchase fruit from are extremely well-tended sites that seek to grow the best fruit possible through rigorous attention to detail on every single vine. To ensure that our sites truly show the characteristics of the soil, micro-climate and clonal material none of them use irrigation.
In the winery the philosophy of attention to the smallest details is further extended all the way from the fermenting must to the final bottling process. All of the wines at all points of evolution are handled and manipulated as little as possible while being smelled and tasted on a regular basis. The selection of barrels has been limited to one cooper noted for producing some of the best made Pinot Noir barrels in the world. As they produce as many as 15-16 different bottlings of Pinot Noir under their own label each vintage the decisions they make about the quality of every single barrel is quite rigorous ensuring that each bottling represents the best possible wine from each vineyard with which they work.
At the very least Patty Green is a study in climbing
the winemaking ladder.
She began by leaving the re-forestation business
to pick grapes at Hillcrest Vineyard outside of
Roseburg. By 1987 she was working in the winery
more or less as the Assistant Winemaker. In 1988
and 1989 she was pretty much given the reins. As this
was Hillcrest Vineyard that meant she could pretty
much experiment with anything she saw as
interesting and informative. In 1990 and 1991 she
was consulting for Ashland Vineyards and Girardet
Winery while working crush at Adelsheim Winery. In
1992 she became the winemaker at La Garza
Vineyards while keeping a busy schedule of
consultation work.
All of this was the prelude to her developing her reputation as one of Oregons top Pinot Noir winemakers. In 1993 she began as the winemaker and sole employee of Torii Mor Winery. In the first vintage she produced about 1,200 cases of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Pinot Gris. When she left with the 1999 vintage in barrel there were 9 labels of Pinot Noir, 2 labels of Chardonnay as well as the small quantity of Pinot Gris. A slew of 90+ point scores on wines from the 93-97 vintages, nods of acknowledgment from numerous national wine critics, widespread recognition within Oregons wine community as a talent to watch and near cult-like status from Pinot drinkers (you cant imagine how many people have asked her if she is the Famous Patty Green or the Wonderful Patty Green or some other descriptive adjective) were all accorded to her in the 6+ vintages she tended to there. But sometimes you have to move on.
The Pinot Noirs she seeks to create are based upon an idea of how she believes each individual vineyard expresses its fruit profile and how she can take that individual expression and lay it over a foundation of richness, silkiness and complexity.
2008 Pinot Noir is a vintage NOT TO MISSED. Wine Spectator just rated the 2008 vintage 95-100 points with a Classic Vintage Rating.
And we have the new 2008 wine releases from Patricia Green. The demand for her wines are always strong and her wines always sell out quickly.
PATRICIA GREEN CHARDONNAY 2008
Winery Notes: Not to be left out of the
discussion
of wines from this vineyard would be the Chardonnay.
We have developed more of an appreciation for this
vineyards ability to give us the kind of fruit we wanted
as we figured out more and more what kind of wine
we wanted to make from this site. All the new barrels
are long gone and at this point the newest barrel in
the Chardonnay has been used five times. We are
also starting to pick at a point where we still have
some greener berries mixed into some of the
bunches. That gives us a hint more acidity than we
have had in the past pushing the wine further and
further into the lemon candy/lemon curd flavor profile
that we love and are trying to coax out of our wine. In
2003 and 2004 we felt as though we were looking to
the wines of the Macon or village level Meursaults for
our inspiration. With the 2005 we definitely stare into
Chablis with a wine that is full of lemony goodness, a
dollop of crushed oyster shell and some spice on the
finish. This is a lean, mean fighting machine. Not for
everyone but you will love it if this in your genre of
Chardonnays. 330 cases bottled.

PATRICIA GREEN FOUR WINDS PINOT NOIR
2008
Winery Notes: This is not only the best
bottling of
Four Winds we have ever done (by a long shot) it is
one of the best wines of the vintage. It is simply
incredible in every way. From the electric black/purple
pigmentation to the wild berry/smoke/earth/licorice
aromatics to the sheer intensity and concentration of
flavors to the massive texture supported by firm
tannins this wine is a rock star. This bottling has not
always been everyones cup of tea. Those who have
liked this have loved it and those not so attracted to it
tended to find it distastefully earthy and odd. This wine
will not be nearly as polarizing. There is a lot to love
about this wine because there is a lot of stuffing
packed into this wine. This is a dynamo. We waited
patiently for these vines to show the benefit of some
vine age and we think we are beginning to see the
fruition of that patience. Didnt hurt that this came in at
slightly over 1 ton to the acre either. Stock up if you
have been a fan in the past or jump on the
bandwagon if you havent been a disciple in the past.

PATRICIA GREEN BALCOMBE PINOT NOIR
2008
Winery Notes : "This bottling has the
sweetness of
red fruit, high-toned acidity, and super-silky tannins
that make Balcombe Vineyard such a terrific and
sought-after site. There is a great deal of intensity in
this particular wine and while its nature tends toward
femininity and elegance there is an underlying
darkness and strength to it that provide a whole
different dimension. Fans of this bottling will love this
vintage as it is mouth-watering, smooth, and rich, and
it possesses so much substance that it will be terrific
for many years down the road."

PATRICIA GREEN ESTATE PINOT NOIR
2008
Winery Notes: This bottling is designed to
show
off the inherent power that younger vines display in the
Ribbon Ridge Appellation. There is a darkness that
runs through this wine from its color, to its aromatic
profile, into the flavors and down into the tannins that
finish it off. While other qualities resonate in flashes
such as violets and bing cherries in the nose and
rose petal and loam in the mid-palate the background
of power and darkness is always there. While this
wine is not truly a powerful wine as it is quite graceful
it has a brooding character that gives it quite a bit of
depth. This is a terrific expression of the type of subtle
power wines from the Ribbon Ridge Appellation
contain. Sort of like Baryshnikov doing Swan Lake in a
leather jacket while carrying brass knuckles.

2008
Winery Notes: "This blend changes
each vintage
based on what we think are the most exotic barrels
the cellar has to offer...We chose based on the
superbly rich, dense, creamy, and full-bodied natures
of these barrels. This wine is a marvel in 2008. What
is truly recognizable even at this young age is the
length of this wine. There is so much substance that
is so well-balanced that it carries on and on. Buy it for
its concentration, depth, and exotic fruit but cellar and
savor it for its length and complexity. This is a
beautiful, beautiful, wine. 135 cases bottled."

KEN WRIGHT CELLARS
Located in rural Carlton, Oregon, Ken Wright Cellars is devoted to showcasing the inherent quality of selected vineyard sites. With a clarity and breadth that is unequaled by other varieties, they believe Pinot noir best expresses the character of these sites. Rather than stamping wine with a varietal trademark, we see Pinot noir as a vehicle for conveying the aroma, flavor and texture of the location in which it is grown.
What definitely can be said about Ken Wright, is that he is passionate about his vines and his wines, and that he has an abiding thirst for any tidbit of knowledge that will help him produce wines that better express their site.
The drama of wine revolves around working with nature to facilitate the expression of fruit and place in a glass. "Human beings are not responsible for the qualities we enjoy in wine," Ken Wright says, "the qualities that the fruit possesses are inherent-we don't inject them into the berries."
Ken believes, that "the grower's and winemaker's true job is to learn how to be an aid in helping the fruit get to where it wants to go, on its own." He views his role as "simply to try and have the purest expression that the fruit is capable of, brought all the way to the bottle and evident in a glass of wine."
Given this philosophy, it is no mystery why Ken works so extensively with Pinot Noir. "Pinot noir has a far greater ability than any other variety to express the qualities of place-and that's magical! Our whole goal with this winery," he declares, "is to find great sites and work with each site to try and find out what we can do to help that fruit best express itself."
VINEYARDS OF THE DUNDEE
HILLS:
Vineyards planted in the Dundee Hills of the
northern Willamette Valley provided the start for the
modern wine industry of Oregon. These initial
plantings took place in the late 1960's and early
1970's. The most common soil type of the areais
described as Jory. These soils are volcanic in origin
with basalt as the mother rock. They are unusually
deep for hillsides, often 6 to 8 feet to bedrock. There is
also a high percentage of clay in the soil which,
combined with the soil depth, tends to hold moisture
later into the season than other soils we work with.
The wine from this region typically displays aromas of
red fruits, strawberry, cherry, and raspberry. The
mouth feel is often rich and emollient.
KEN WRIGHT NYSA VINEYARD 2008
The vineyard was planted in 1990 to own-rooted
Pommard and Wadenswil. Located in the heart of the
Dundee Hills between Domaine Drouhin and Archery
Summit with a southeast to northeast inclination. Jory
soil. The nose exhibits a mix of red and black fruits.
The wines are forward, textural and elegant.
Approximately 350 cases are produced. The vineyard
is owned and managed by Michael Mega.

VINEYARDS OF THE EOLA
HILLS:
The main development of the Eola Hills area took
place from the mid 1970s through the early 1980s.
The most common soil type of the area is described
as Nekia. These volcanic soils are shallower,
generally 1 to 3 feet in depth, and have less clay than
the Dundee Hills. As a result, these soils will dry
sooner, encouraging earlier ripening of the fruit. The
wines of this area typically possess aromas of black
fruits, black cherry, plum and cassis, with acidity levels
that are naturally higher than in other growing areas,
contributing to a sense of structure in the mouth.
KEN WRIGHT CARTER VINEYARD 2008
Located just 1 mile from Canary Hill in the Eola
Hills, Carter Vineyard is lower on the hillside yet has a
leaner and less fertile soil. It is mainly Nekia soil,
which is formed from weathered basic rock. It lies at
an elevation of 325' and was planted in 1983. This
bottling is comprised of the Wadenswil, Dijon 777,
Dijon 667, Dijon 115, and Pommard clones. The wine
is firmer than Canary Hill in its youth but evolves
beautifully after a few years in bottle to show black
fruits and fresh, healthy earth scents. Approximately
650 cases are produced. The vineyard is owned by
Jack and Kathleen Carter, and managed by Mark
Gould.

VINEYARDS OF THE YAMHILL-CARLTON
DISTRICT:
The vineyards of the Yamhill-Carlton District
were planted mostly in the late 1980s and early
1990s. The primary soil of this area is called
Willakenzie, named after the Willamette and McKenzie
rivers. It is a sedimentary soil with a sandstone base
rock. The sand content is quite high and the soil
therefore very well drained. The sites are generally on
the lower slopes of a volcanic ridge. Wines of the area
possess aromas of red and black fruits, with added
elements of cocoa, leather and fresh-turned earth.
Acidity levels are generally lower than other regions,
prompting these wines to be lush and agreeable in
their youth.
KEN WRIGHT GUADALUPE VINEYARD
2008
The vineyard was planted in 1989 and
represents the definable change of the Jory soils of
the Dundee Hills to the sedimentary soil of the
Yamhill-Carlton District. It is spaced 7 by 5 and is
planted to the Wadenswil clone. The soil, known as
Willakenzie, is a well-drained shallow soil over
siltstone. It lies at an elevation of 350'. The vineyard
consistently produces small berries and clusters that
are intensely colored. The wine possesses the
character of black fruits, cocoa, leather and earth.
Approximately 400 cases are produced. Jim
Stonebridge and Kathleen Boeve own the vineyard. It
is managed by Joel Myers.

KEN WRIGHT McCRONE VINEYARD 2008
Located in the Yamhill-Carlton District, this is a
densely planted vineyard (1 meter x 2 meters). The
sedimentary soil, know as Wellsdale, is extremely
well drained and promotes early ripening. Elevation is
400' with a south-southwest inclination. Slopes are 5
to 15 degrees. Half of the vineyard was planted in
1992 to the Dijon 115 clone grafted on 3309. The
second half was originally planted to Dijon
Chardonnay clones but was grafted in 2000 to the
Dijon 777 clone of Pinot noir. The wine from this site
is powerful, dense and deeply colored focusing
mainly on black fruits. Approximately 700 cases are
produced. Don and Carole McCrone are the vineyard
owners. Mark Gould is the vineyard manager.

KEN WRIGHT SAVOYA VINEYARD 2008
This is the first vineyard directly owned and
developed by Ken Wright Cellars. The vineyard is
located in the Yamhill-Carlton District northeast of
Carlton. Planting began in 1999 with 4.5 acres of
clones 777 and 115 on phylloxera resistant rootstock..
Total planted acreage as of spring 2002 is
approximately 17 acres. Vine spacing is 6.5 x 4 and
the elevations averages 450. The soil is comprised of
marine sediments known as Wellsdale and
Willakenzie. These are sandy soils which drain quickly
and hasten the ripening process. Our first commercial
crop, 2002, has produced a muscular wine that has
aromas of dense black fruit, seared meat, cedar and
anise. Approximately 240 cases are produced. Ken
and Karen Wright are owners. The vineyard is
managed by Mark Gould.

VINEYARDS OF THE COASTAL
RANGE:
We source fruit from two vineyards located in the
foothills of the coastal range. Both tend to be late to
ripen due to the cooling influence of maritime air
flowing into the valley from the Van Duzer Corridor.
These sites also tend to have higher levels of tannin
which make them great candidates for extending
cellaring but they are unlikely to be as immediately
pleasurable as many of our other sites.
KEN WRIGHT FREEDOM HILL VINEYARD
2008
Freedom Hill Vineyard is located in the Coast
Range just south of Dallas, OR. The soil type is
known as Bellpine, which is sedimentary in origin.
The fruit from our 2.85 acre block is wholly Pommard
clone. The vineyard was planted in 1980. Wines from
this site are the firmest and most structured that we
work with. They have great longevity. Approximately
340 cases are produced. The vineyard is owned and
managed by Dan & Helen Dusschee.

KEN WRIGHT MEREDITH MITCHELL
VINEYARD 2008
The vineyard was planted in 1988 to own-rooted
Pommard clone. The site is southwest of McMinnville
in the coastal foothills. Spacing is 12 x 6 with an
average elevation of 300. Soils are shallow with
basaltic mother rock only 20 to 30 inches below the
soil surface. Consistently producing small clusters
and berries this vineyard renders wine which is
intense and structured, requiring a bit more aging
than may of our sites. Approximately 310 cases are
produced. The vineyard is owned and operated by
Susan Meredith and Frank Mitchell.
