From Original Pappy Van Winkle Distillery Very Limited Bourbon/ Fri Special Paul Hobbs and Etude Pinot Noir

Today we have something for all you Pappy Van Winkle Fans it is the Jefferson’s Presidential Select 18-Year Old Bourbon.

This was distilled and bottled during the last years of production at Louisville’s Stitzel-Weller Distillery. Produced by what many consider to be history’s finest bourbon distillery, Stitzel-Weller Distillery was formed by the original "Pappy" Julian Van Winkle Sr of the great Pappy Van Winkle Bourbons. All the Pappy Van Winkle Bourbons were made here till the Distillery closed in 1992. For All you Pappy fans this is largely Pappy Van Winkle Bourbon. The same Bourbon most people now scratch and claw just to get a single bottle of.

Jefferson’s Presidential Select is a truly superlative offering. Bottled at 94 proof, this ultra-rare, ultra-premium, 18-year-old bourbon is a Collector's Item and Very Limited.

Trey Zoeller, founder of McLain & Kyne (Owner of the Independent Bottler Jefferson’s Bourbon), comments: “The discovery of these rare Stitzel-Weller barrels is a coup for bourbon connoisseurs everywhere, who will undoubtedly discover in Jefferson’s Presidential Select a spirit that more than lives up to the fine reputation of its distillery.”

The nose is of big vanillas with full character, citrus, apple, subtle caramel and assorted nuts. The body is huge. English toffee, cinnamon, leather. Balanced and sultry. The finish is long and rounded.
It is a “wheated” bourbon, meaning that wheat is used as a second grain (not rye), resulting in smooth flavors and graceful aging. All of the Van Winkle bourbons are made with corn, wheat, and, barley instead of corn, rye and, barley. And of course this is no different.

Malt Advocate called it a “Classic” and gave it 96 Points: Unlike the standard “small batch” releases, this is from a single barrel: a really good single barrel. There’s less wood getting in the way. It’s softer, more elegant. Lovely fruit, gently sweet (black raspberry jam, blueberry pie), with nougat, creamy vanilla, a sprinkling of cinnamon, and polished leather on the finish. And so drinkable. Classic stuff!

There were some Batches of 17 year old available on the market but those are long gone. These are known to be the last of the Bourbons that came from the Barrels at Stitzel-Weller Distillery. So once these are gone that will be it folks. This is a Very Limited Bourbon. I would recommend getting it Today and as much as you can! Once we sell out there is no guarantee that we will be able to get any more in.

Last Year's #6 Rated Wine from Wine Spectator is Back and Better than Ever!

Paul Hobbs Winery

As a winemaker, Paul is highly regarded for his ability to identify exceptional vineyards, and for his pioneering spirit in working innovatively with new and historical sites and regions.  His success has inspired a wealth of nicknames among the press, from quiet trendsetter to prospector to truffle-hunting dog.  Hired by Robert Mondavi for his advanced understanding of oak aging, he went on to become winemaker for Opus One and Simi wineries, and then consultant to Peter Michael, Fisher, Lewis, Catena and others.  He founded Paul Hobbs Winery in 1991 and Vina Cobos in 1999.  He continues to be a leading consultant winemaker around the globe.

Paul Hobb's fascination with vineyards began when his family first planted winegrapes on their upstate New York farm in 1969. Growing up on a working farm in upstate New York, Paul experienced first-hand the influence of terroir on the character of fruit, when his father had him taste apples of the same variety grown in different orchards several miles apart from one another.  The diversity of flavors and textures made an impression on him and would later influence his approach to winemaking. For fifteen years Paul honed his craft while working for several prominent wineries on both sides of the equator. Then, in 1991, he started his own winery in Sonoma County. The winery specializes in producing small lot, handcrafted vienyard designated wines. Hobbs is recognized as an innovator in California for his focus on native yeast fermentations and his natural approach to winemaking.

2009 began with an abundance of spring rain followed by mild, steady summer temperatures that set the stage for nearly ideal pinot noir and chardonnay growing conditions. The well-set fruit ripened slowly allowing for an excellent balance of sugars and acids to develop. The resulting wines can be characterized as elegant and rich with profound depth and structure.

A Great Pinot Noir at A Great Price. We Do Not Have Much Left of this Wine!

 ETUDE WINERY

"Etude was founded on the philosophy that winemaking begins in the vineyard long before the harvest and that superior grape growing diminishes the need for intervention by the winemaker, resulting in wine that is grown, not made. This remains our approach today as we continue to build the Etude legacy."

What began twenty five years ago as a philosophical state of mind is now a state-of-the-art winemaking facility where the ancient art of winemaking is pursued with a singular passion.

Etude Wines is dedicated to mastering the craft of winegrowing. In classical music, an etude is a composition with a technical focus that allows the musician to practice a particular technique. Similarly, Etude wines are the product of deliberate concentration on the instructive variables of the craft. The end game is not edification alone, but rather the wine itself as a source of enjoyment. Chopin piano etudes are notoriously difficult but sublimely beautiful… this is an example of the practicing craft transformed to art.

Founder and self described winegrower Tony Soter puts it this way: "There’s no better vehicle with which to study or practice the craft of winemaking than Pinot Noir. It is the most challenging, unforgiving and quixotic of all wine grapes, and yet the most delicate and transparent.” “Make no mistake it is a humbling pursuit, but when it’s right, Pinot Noir is a glorious and moving thing. It is in the pursuit of that experience that we all work."

Laboring alongside Soter in this oenological quest for perfection are veteran winemaker Jon Priest and viticulturalist Franci Ashton. Together, this talented trio works to transform the very finest Carneros and Napa Valley grapes into world-class wines sought out by the most discriminating wine lovers. In addition to its widely acclaimed Carneros Pinot Noir and legendary Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, Etude has also developed a loyal following for Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc and Merlot.

Etude specializes in classic red varietals.  While modeled after the best of Burgundy and Bordeaux, Etude wines speak clearly of their contemporary California origins, combining rich, ripe fruit with an elegant structure and opulent mouth feel.

Etude's Pinot Noirs, including a highly esteemed bottling made from rare heirloom varieties and its small production Pinot Gris and Rose of Pinot Noir, are vinified from grapes grown on the Winery’s Carneros estate vineyard.

Release of Best Napanook Ever From Christian Moueix's Dominus Estate!

New Vintage of Napanook from the famed Dominus Estate by Christian Moueix.

The 2008 Vintage was rated 93 points by Robert Parker the highest score that it has ever received. The 2008 Dominus received 99 points and is selling for $150 or more! This wine is in quality with Dominus at 1/3 of the price.

Robert Parker said 2008 Napanook “One of the greatest Napanooks made. It is a deeper, richer, more intense wine with full body, an endearing texture and a long, pure finish. These two are “take your pick” vintages, but wine enthusiasts would probably be remiss in not having both 2007 and 2008 in their cellars.”

Dominus Estate is the Napa Valley property of Bordeaux producer Christian Moueix. With a long history of winemaking in Libourne, France, Christian Moueix studied at University of California, Davis and was attracted by the opportunity to make a wine that was distinctly Napa terroir with the spirit and style of a great Bordeaux.

The source for the wines is the historical Napanook Vineyard, one of the oldest vineyards in the Napa Valley that has been in production since the late 19th century. Located at the heart of the Napa Valley, the vineyard benefits from warm days but is kept cool by the breezes that pass over the Mayacamas Mountains.

Napanook Vineyards is the original name of the estate before Christian renamed it Dominus. Napanook is a bit of an homage to these legendary vineyards that were the source of many of the historic Inglenook Cabernet Sauvignons.

Napanook vineyard is planted with the four Bordeaux grape varietals, 84% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Cabernet Franc and the rest Petit Verdot. Each block of the vineyard has been carefully planted with the best suited grape varietal for its specific soil. Christian Moueix believes this terrior and an intimate understanding of the vineyard help him and his team to produce outstanding wines.

This is a Great Buy with prices of Dominus and other Bordeaux wines of this magnitude going for $150 and above. Don’t miss your chance to get this great wine.
