Bruichladdich - 21 Year Single Malt Scotch
Bruichladdich - 21 Year Single Malt Scotch $249.99 $199.98

 | Scotland | 750ml

From the same cask pedigree as Blacker Still but one year older, this opulent 21 year old Bruichladdich scales new heights and regrettably is unlikely to be repeated for quite some time due to the scarcity of good quality Oloroso sherry butts. This is a rare and exceptional signature Bruichladdich spirit. Oloroso sherry butts used to be widely available but are becoming increasingly difficult to find now as sherry sales and production continues to decline. Ironically as the availability of sherry casks declines Bruichladdich is starting to use French wine casks in which to mature its whiskies; in fact it was the prolonged wars with France in the 19th century when British traders couldn’t source French casks that British merchants developed trading routes with Spain and other countries in Europe, which itself developed demand for sherry in the UK as an alternative to wine, and it was these butts which the scotch whisky industry used in the absence of French wine casks. The combination of the rich Oloroso sherry influence and full term maturation in Islay’s marine climate creates Bruichladdich’s richest full bodied whisky to date.

K&L Notes

Recently voted "Best Islay Whisky of 2011" by the Whisky Advocate, the Bruichladdich 10 has finally reached the American west coast where at last we can revel in its glory. Finally, ten long years after re-opening the distillery, Bruichladdich has reached the finish line - a ten year old malt composed entirely of whisky made after the resurrection. The wait has been worth it. Many of us at K&L feel that Bruichladdich's post-2001 whiskies are some of the best distillates in the world - they've always just been a bit too immature. The quality of the spirit coming off their pot stills is simply jaw-dropping (their Botanist gin is also delicious), and we've been excited to see what it can do after a decade in the barrel. That time is finally here. The malt is ultra smooth, creamy with citrus notes, stone fruits, and the trademark saltiness that makes it an Islay whisky through and through. The price is also right. For a small independently-owned distillery, the boys at Bruichladdich have struggled at times, but they've always landed on their feet. The 10 year is one of the most anticipated whiskies of all time and for about $50, it's one of the best single malt deals we'll see this year. For those lamenting the rising cost of good whisky, make sure you take home the Laddie 10 and savor each drop. This is true handcrafted whisky. (David Driscoll, K&L Spirits Buyer)

Bruichladdich - Octomore 2-140
Bruichladdich - Octomore 2-140 $179.95 $159.95

Whiskey | Scotland | Islay | 750ml

Very Limited! Another monster from the Laddies, this time at a higher peating of 140ppm as opposed to last years 132. We think this is great stuff, and so did Jim Murray (he gave it 94 points and a Liquid Gold award). In the race to create the most peaty whisky in the world, Bruichladdich is certainly in the lead. Bruichladdich's Octomore leaves Ardbeg's Supernova in the dust at a staggering 140 ppm phenolic content. The only whisky that is outdoing this one in terms of peat at the moment is Bruichladdich's own new Octomore 3 (152 ppm). You can smell massive amounts of peat-smoke from 10 feet away. Approach the glass, it only grew stronger. Loads of smoke with a little bit of water the nose gives off licorice, ash, straw, and hints of camphor. Long, Long Finish.

This classic 16-year-old whisky has been matured in vanilla-rich casks coopered from American White Oak; stowed away in Bruichladdich’ s loch-side warehouses, slumbering, maturing, coming of age… All the time breathing the invigorating marine air of this hebridean island.
