You won't be disappointed with this attractively priced Corbieres. Floral and herbal, with strong scents of lavender, licorice, laurel and menthol all infusing the black cherry, currant and boysenberry center. Rich and concentrated with a texture like crushed velvet and fine but well-structured tannins. Hints of black pepper and bittersweet chocolate grace the close.

2010 Neyers - Grenache Rossi Ranch $42.99 $32.95

Red | Grenache | United States | California | 750ml

Similar to a wine from the southern Rhone, a chance to brush up against the wines from Chateauneuf du Pape, Gigondas or Lirac. The aroma is jammy, in a subtle way, with loads of upfront charm and flavor. There's a broad softness to the palate and a finish that brings to mind the rocky minerality of the hills in western Sonoma. 105 Cases Produced

Dense and layered, but very refined, with a violet note stitching the crushed black cherry, steeped blackberry and anise flavors together, while an iron note adds range to the finish. Drink now through 2018.

2007 R Wines - Chateau Chateau Grenache
2007 R Wines - Chateau Chateau Grenache $79.99 $34.95

Red | Grenache | Australia | 750ml

The 2007 Chateau Grenache (600 cases) is a blend of all the Grenache cuvees except for the Ebenezer. The lovely aromatics deliver aromas of cedar, spice box, leather, cherry, and strawberry. Forward, succulent, and complex, this friendly effort is all about immediate gratification. Even so, its harmony and elegance will preserve it for another 6-8 years. Chateau Chateau is a label created by importer Dan Philips and marketed under the R Wines umbrella. Its stated purpose is to demonstrate the effects of soil and place on Grenache (and blends) from the best terroirs in Barossa Valley and McLaren Vale. The Barossa Reserve wines are limited production cuvees, most of them under 150 cases. Each has its own distinctive label representing its place of origin.

"The 2010 Heart Stone Vineyard opens with a dark, brooding nose redolent of smoke, tar, incense and licorice. Elements of dark, inward fruit continue to build in the glass. There is an exotic element in the Heart Stone that is undeniably appealing. Layers of fruit crescendo to the huge, towering finish.[...]" Wine Advocate (95-97)

"Offers a broad range of dense, earth- and mineral-laced cranberry, raspberry and wild berry, touching on berry pie and black licorice. Ends chewy. Syrah and Grenache. Drink now through 2024." Wine Spectator (94)

"Inky ruby. Powerful aromas of cherry-cola, blackberry, smoky minerals and violet, with a sexy oak spice nuance in the background. Lush and creamy on the palate, offering sweet, deeply concentrated dark berry flavors and a refreshing jolt of smoky minerals. Finishes bright and delineated, with lingering notes of cinnamon and candied flowers." International Wine Cellar (94)

There will be 1050 cases of this blend of 84% Grenache, 11% Syrah and the reappearance of a little Mourvedre (5%). Seventy-two percent came from the 11 Confessions estate vineyard, 22% from the Cumulus estate vineyard (the source for Next of Kyn) and the balance from the Bien Nacido Vineyard. It is a big wine at 15.7% alcohol and seems to show surprising amounts of tree bark and mushroom notes for the tiny quantity of Mourvedre. It is structured, dense, quite closed, and (obviously, this being a barrel sample) not as exciting as the wines tend to be from bottle. It is a more earthy, French style of Grenache from Krankl, with a more restrained personality, which I think is in keeping with the vintage character.

2010 Villa Negra - Garnacha
2010 Villa Negra - Garnacha $13.99 $8.95

50-60 Year Old Vines Grenache. Lurid purple. Funky, pungent aromas of blackberry and boysenberry, with peppery spice, cured meat and herb qualities. Juicy and taut, with a strong black peppery quality to the bitter cherry and dark berry flavors.  Finishes bright and tangy, with lingering herbal and spice notes.
