As the temperature rises in California’s central coast  during the hottest hours of the day, the vineyards at 24 Knots are blessed with cool marine winds which sweep through at an unbelievable 30 miles per hour, which, in nautical terms, is equivalent to a speed of 24 knots, hence the name… This very structured and balanced wine offers aromas of strawberry and black cherry, accompanied by hint of toast. It has a vivid acidity and a long silky finish.

The 2009 Charmes-Chambertin emerges from the glass with lovely radiance and openness in its ripe, juicy fruit. The Charmes is already rather forward, and at this stage appears to be a relatively early-maturing wine. The oak is also a bit pronounced. Sweet, textured floral notes wrap around the long, polished finish. Rousseau’s Charmes is technically 60% Mazoyeres. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2029.

2009 was a warm, bountiful year and while many producers have given the market high alcohol, overripe fruit bombs, you will not find that in any 2009 Pinot noirs from Cameron. Deep roots without irrigation is the key: these vines have far less leaf canopy and fewer stomata for gas exchange so that significantly less sugar is produced over the course of the ripening season. Add to that the higher elevation of our Abbey Ridge Vineyard and you have before you a wine of elegance and grace (13.0% alcohol), luscious black cherry aromas and mouth-watering texture.

Full red with ruby tones. Incredible high-pitched nose combines raspberry, pepper, rose petal, red licorice, crushed stone, flowers, menthol and eucalyptus. The palate offers extraordinary sweetness but the wine's minerally lift and intense sappiness gives it a weightless impression. Shows the noble side of Corton grand cru, not to mention uncanny intensity; Faiveley made 42 hectoliters per hectare in 2009, but the wine tastes like half that. Finishes with incredible length and verve; offhand, I can't think of a longer 2009. Should be a cellar treasure.
