2010 Chateau Suduiraut - Sauternes (Pre-arrival)
2010 Chateau Suduiraut - Sauternes (Pre-arrival) $116.99 $84.98

White | Semillon, Sauvignon Blanc, Muscadelle | France | Bordeaux | 750ml

The Chateau Suduiraut has a comparatively rich, botrytized bouquet with dried honey, pineapple and a touch of Seville orange marmalade, with exquisite definition and focus. The palate is well-balanced, with a viscous texture and a good level of botrytis, demonstrating fine minerality and tautness. Dried mango, quince and spice all interlace the focused finish, which is long in the mouth. Tasted against its peers, this has a higher level of intensity and focus. A superb follow-up to the sensational 2009.

2005 Clos Pegase - Cabernet Sauvignon Hommage Napa Valley
2005 Clos Pegase - Cabernet Sauvignon Hommage Napa Valley $99.95 $79.95

Red | Cabernet Sauvignon | United States | California | 750ml

Masses of pure Cabernet Sauvignon blackcurrant fruit coupled with toasty oak dominate the nose. Rich, concentrated and spicy, the palate of the wine is dense and juicy with great structure and a long finish. This is Napa Cabernet on a grand scale that will develop and improve in the bottle for 5 to 15 years. Providing the core of the Hommage is our Palisades Vineyard, located 2.5 miles northwest of the winery. Adding depth and color is Petit Verdot from the Home Ranch, at the winery on the valley floor in Calistoga, with deep and fertile sandy clay‐loam. A small amount of Cabernet Franc from new plantings in Carneros at Mitsuko’s Vineyard on Haire clay loam provides vibrancy.

2007 Conti Costanti - Brunello di Montalcino
2007 Conti Costanti - Brunello di Montalcino $89.99

Red | Sangiovese Grosso | Italy | Tuscany | 750ml

"The 2007 Brunello di Montalcino is a model of grace and elegance. This isn't a huge, powerful wine like the 2006, but rather a Brunello that impresses for its total finesse. Sweet floral notes lead to hints of tobacco, wild herbs and spices on the refined finish. Layers of fruit flesh out beautifully in a radiant, expressive wine that captures the essence of the vintage." Wine Advocate (95 Points)

In late 2011, I had the last bottle in my cellar of the 1970 Domaine de Chevalier. Much to my surprise, it was still holding on to life and remained gorgeously complex in that ethereal Graves style. The 2009, one of the finest Domaine de Chevaliers yet produced, reveals a striking bouquet of burning embers, sweet cherry, black and red currant fruit, spice box, cedar and lead pencil shavings. The tannins are sweet in this fleshy, full-bodied offering. It is built on the notion of extraordinary harmony, elegance and complexity. While not the most concentrated or flamboyant 2009, its intense aromas are already reasonably evolved and its lusciousness and balance are terrific. Made from an interesting blend of 64% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and 6% Petit Verdot, its yields of 45 hectoliters per hectare were slightly higher than many of its neighbors achieved. Drink it over the next 25 years.

2010 Domaine de Chevalier - Pessac-Léognan (Pre-arrival)
2010 Domaine de Chevalier - Pessac-Léognan (Pre-arrival) $121.99 $89.98

Red | Bordeaux | France | Bordeaux | 750ml

92-95

This is one of my all-time favorite wines from Domaine de Chevalier, a silky, rather classic Pessac-Leognan with notes of scorched earth, tobacco leaf and black and red currants, but no hard edges. Fragrant, complex aromatics are followed by a savory, expansively flavored wine made from a final blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot. The wine hit 13.5% natural alcohol, which must certainly be among the highest they have ever achieved, even eclipsing the 2009. An opulent, precocious style of wine that seems much more developed, complex and delicious than I thought from barrel, this beauty can be drunk in 5-6 years or cellared for 20 or more.

2010 Domaine Olivier Leflaive - Puligny Montrachet Les Folatieres 1er Cru
2010 Domaine Olivier Leflaive - Puligny Montrachet Les Folatieres 1er Cru $129.95 $99.95

White | Chardonnay | France | Burgundy | 750ml

 BH  90-93

A discreet touch of wood frames an elegant and quite pretty nose of lemon, stone, pear and floral scents that gives way to exceptionally rich yet attractively well-detailed medium-bodied flavors that possess a seductive mouth feel. There is excellent cut and punch to the lingering finish and overall, this is really very stylish.

1991 Dow's - Vintage Port
1991 Dow's - Vintage Port $93.99

Port | Port Blend | Portugal | 750ml

"The firmly-structured, moderately tannic, impressively colored and concentrated 1991 Vintage Port is less precocious and more reserved than the 1992 Quinta do Bomfim Vintage Port. It may develop along the lines of the stern but powerful 1977. The wine offers a classic display of black fruits, licorice, and chocolate aromas and flavors, as well as a full-bodied, muscular style with considerable tannin and firmness. Give it 10-12 years of cellaring and drink it over the following 30+." Wine Advocate (91 Points)

2008 Dunn - Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley
2008 Dunn - Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley $109.95 $89.95

Red | Cabernet Sauvignon | United States | California | 750ml

The 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley is simply extraordinary. Layers of dark fruit, flowers, licorice, spices and mint are beautifully woven together. With time in the glass the wines striking inner perfume takes center stage. Tar, smoke, flowers, red berries and licorice are some of the nuances that reappear on the finish, while gorgeous aromatics are laced throughout. I could go on. Let me make it simple this is a flat-out great bottle of wine from Randy Dunn. Anticipated maturity 2018-2033.

2009 Fonseca - Vintage Port
2009 Fonseca - Vintage Port $134.99 $99.95

Port | Port | Portugal | 750ml

"The 2009 Fonseca shows consistent notes to its release. It was a small production of 6,300 cases compared to the average of 11,000. It has a quintessential, primal Fonseca bouquet with voluptuous sloes, blackcurrants, kirsch and sweet fig all suffused with glycerin. The palate is succulent on the entry, but the copious nascent black fruit belies the structure underneath. (Indeed, this vintage has the highest anthocyanin count.) This should evolve into a magnificent port. Drink 2035-2050" Wine Advocate (94 Points)

2003 Graham's - Vintage Port
2003 Graham's - Vintage Port $89.99

Port | Port | Portugal | 750ml

"Violets, roses, spices, and candied dark fruits emanate from the glass of the murky black/purple colored 2003 Graham Vintage Port. After four days of air, this wine’s aromatics sweetened further, displaying jammy blackberry and blueberry scents. Bold, full-bodied, and expansive, the Graham benefited the most from extensive contact with air of all the 2003s tasted for this report. This opulently jammy wine assaults the palate with powerful yet soft layers of oily, candied red fruits as well as notes of tar and hints of mocha. A highly concentrated effort, it is creamy textured, suave, and reveals an admirably long finish filled with additional layers of dark fruits intermingled with spices." Wine Advocate (95 Points)

2007 J Davies - Cabernet Sauvignon $99.95 $79.95

"The 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon is composed of 84% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Malbec, and 4% Petit Verdot. It offers beautifully sweet black and blue fruits (particularly cassis and blueberries) interwoven with hints of Chinese black tea, incense, charcoal, and forest flora. Full-bodied with silky tannins, a terrific texture, and a stunningly long finish, this impressive 2007 can be drunk now and over the next 20-25 years." Wine Advocate (94 Points)

2010 Kistler - Chardonnay Les Noisetier Russian River Valley
2010 Kistler - Chardonnay Les Noisetier Russian River Valley $99.99 $79.95

White | Chardonnay | United States | California | 750ml

Named for roasted halzelnuts, "Les Noisetiers" is the most appelation-expressive Chardonnay from Kistler Vineyards. The grapes are whole-cluster pressed into 30% new French oak for fermentation via indigenous yeast. It was bottled unfined and unfiltered after 10 months in barrel. From the winery: "Deep green-yellow. A pronounced and refined sense of minerality pierces through the initial first blush of stone fruit on the nose. Wet stone, powdered sea sand, and a slight sense of roasted grain. Perfectly balanced, the core is packed with grilled citrus, a touch of lemongrass and threaded with a vibrant acidity that reverberates across the palate. Possesses a lively, yet elegant finish that just doesn’t want to end.

The nose on this wine is pure mountain spice yet fruity with rich blackberry and a hint of cocoa to finish. The entry is silky and elegant with bold flavors of dark cherries, blueberry, cocoa, and spiced plum. The palate is layered with well structured tannins which lead to a long and complex finish of dark currant.

"With raspingly dry, hard tannins, this is a difficult Cabernet to assess. It's impressively rich in blackberries and black currants, with a firm minerality, and the overall balance is good. Seems like it should develop over the next decade, maybe even longer, but those tannins might outlast the fruit."

2009 Nickel & Nickel - Cabernet Sauvignon Quarry Vineyard Rutherford (Pre-arrival)
2009 Nickel & Nickel - Cabernet Sauvignon Quarry Vineyard Rutherford (Pre-arrival) $119.95 $79.95

Red | Cabernet Sauvignon | United States | California | 750ml

Quarry vineyard is located in Rutherford along the east side of Silverado Trail. Three distinct hillside blocks, each with its own unique soil and exposure, are harvested from this vineyard. The white, rocky loam soils are well drained, and the vines are of moderate vigor. The cooler season of 2009 has created a slightly different fruit profile than the 2008 vintage. Berry fruit flavors integrate perfectly with the wine's natural earth, mineral, herb and tobacco flavors. Thickness on the palate and seductive spice linger from beginning to end. The French oak adds roundness and char, carrying this medley of flavors into a long, supple finish.

The 2009 Tench Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon offers blueberry and boysenberry flavors that harmonize with a background of spice and herb. This wine is elegant and balanced between the juicy fruit and the vanilla from the oak. A coating, velvety texture is expansive and refreshing as the soft, supple tannins carry the flavors into a long finish.

"Readers should keep an eye out for the 1998 Terra Rossa First Growth after its release later this year. Its dense purple color is followed by extraordinarily sweet fruit, intense glycerin, and a full-bodied, concentrated mouth-feel. The purity, high extract, and uncanny symmetry is breathtaking. Perhaps the finest Terra Rossa First Growth yet produced, it should drink well for two decades or more." Wine Advocate (95-97 Points)

2010 Paul Hobbs - Chardonnay Ritchie Vineyard Russian River Valley
2010 Paul Hobbs - Chardonnay Ritchie Vineyard Russian River Valley $99.95 $79.95

White | Chardonnay | United States | California | 750ml

The 2010 Chardonnay Ritchie Vineyard shows terrific energy, cut and focus, with bright shades of lemon, flowers, mint and crushed rocks. It is a beautifully delineated, energetic Chardonnay to drink over the next few years. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2018. This is a dazzling set of Chardonnays and Pinots from Paul Hobbs. The wines are made with native primary and secondary fermentations, aged on their lees and bottled without fining of filtration. Vintages 2009 and 2010 are both strong, but I find myself favoring the 2010s for their greater verve and focus. Either way, it is virtually impossible to go wrong with any of these new and upcoming releases.
