2009 Domaine A&P de Villaine - Rully Les St.-Jacques
2009 Domaine A&P de Villaine - Rully Les St.-Jacques $44.99 $35.95

White | Chardonnay | France | Burgundy | 750ml

This vineyard consists of 4 acres of 17 year old vines. The wine is light yellow in color and has a lovely complex perfume with floral, peach, citrus nuances and a faint hint of mineral and pineapple. With lovely complex fruit flavors accented by a flinty, Chablis-like quality, this is delicious to drink now. As the wine ages I would expect that it should show even more depth.

2009 Domaine A. & P. de Villaine - Bourgogne White Les Clous
2009 Domaine A. & P. de Villaine - Bourgogne White Les Clous $39.99 $28.95

White | Chardonnay | France | Burgundy | 750ml

Incredible purity and class on the nose—discreet, complex, a hint of vanilla and white flower blossoms. The palate is dry and round without a hint of sucrosity.

2009 Domaine Bouscat - La Gargone
2009 Domaine Bouscat - La Gargone $29.95 $24.95

Red | Proprietary Red | France | Bordeaux | 750ml

"The remarkable 2009 Bouscat La Gargone, which is even better from bottle than it was from barrel, is a blend of 60% Merlot, 20% Malbec, 18% Cabernet Franc and 2% Cabernet Sauvignon. Consultant Claude Gros certainly got things right, as this tips the scales at a California-like 15.9% natural alcohol. An absolutely sensational nose of white chocolate intermixed with blackberry jam, licorice, incense and white flowers soars from the glass of this opaque, full-bodied, sensationally concentrated wine that has no hard edges. Drink it over the next 3-4 years." Wine Advocate (93)

2009 Domaine Cordier Père & Fils - Pouilly-Fuissé Vieilles Vignes
2009 Domaine Cordier Père & Fils - Pouilly-Fuissé Vieilles Vignes $36.99 $24.95

White | Chardonnay | France | Burgundy | 750ml

This wine expresses intense and focused aromatics while concentrated, impeccably balanced rich, long flavors take over in the mouth. The wines from Pouilly Fuissé are often thought to rival and surpass many of the top level wines found in the Côte de Beaune and at a fraction of the price.

2009 Domaine Cordier Père & Fils - St.-Véran
2009 Domaine Cordier Père & Fils - St.-Véran $34.99 $19.95

White | Proprietary Blend | France | 750ml

A medley of ripe apple and zesty lemon fruit characters creates great depth and intensity, with some body coming from careful use of oak. Slight mineral in the form of slate is detectable on the palate.

In late 2011, I had the last bottle in my cellar of the 1970 Domaine de Chevalier. Much to my surprise, it was still holding on to life and remained gorgeously complex in that ethereal Graves style. The 2009, one of the finest Domaine de Chevaliers yet produced, reveals a striking bouquet of burning embers, sweet cherry, black and red currant fruit, spice box, cedar and lead pencil shavings. The tannins are sweet in this fleshy, full-bodied offering. It is built on the notion of extraordinary harmony, elegance and complexity. While not the most concentrated or flamboyant 2009, its intense aromas are already reasonably evolved and its lusciousness and balance are terrific. Made from an interesting blend of 64% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and 6% Petit Verdot, its yields of 45 hectoliters per hectare were slightly higher than many of its neighbors achieved. Drink it over the next 25 years.

2009 Domaine du Vieux Telegraphe - Chateauneuf du Pape La Crau
2009 Domaine du Vieux Telegraphe - Chateauneuf du Pape La Crau $89.95 $69.95

Red | Chateauneuf du Pape | France | Rhone | 750ml

This 135-acre estate (all in the famed La Crau) has produced a 2009 Vieux Telegraphe Chateauneuf du Pape composed of 65% Grenache, 15% Syrah, 15% Mourvedre and the rest other authorized varietals (from vines that average 60 years of age). The wine is aged 18 months in foudres and concrete tanks. This classic offering had just been bottled before my visit, so it was probably tighter than it will be in 6-12 months. Deep ruby/purple-colored with notes of garrigue, seaweed, licorice, plums, black cherries and raspberries, it typically reveals a Mediterranean sea breeze-like character that is difficult to articulate. The sweetness of the tannin, full-bodied mouthfeel, and evolved style remind me somewhat of the 1983, which is still drinking beautifully. The 2009 can be consumed now or cellared for two decades.?

A notably floral-infused nose of red berry fruit also reflects a discreet note of new wood that complements the rich, dense, serious and palate staining medium-bodied flavors that possess fine complexity on the balanced and quite firm finish. This should be excellent in time.

2009 Domaine Faiveley - Bourgogne Rouge $24.95 $19.95

Very focused and juicy, with pretty raspberry, currant, violet and stone aromas and flavors that meld nicely with the firm structure and sleek profile. Elegant overall, with beautifully defined fruit and nice length

Full red with ruby tones. Incredible high-pitched nose combines raspberry, pepper, rose petal, red licorice, crushed stone, flowers, menthol and eucalyptus. The palate offers extraordinary sweetness but the wine's minerally lift and intense sappiness gives it a weightless impression. Shows the noble side of Corton grand cru, not to mention uncanny intensity; Faiveley made 42 hectoliters per hectare in 2009, but the wine tastes like half that. Finishes with incredible length and verve; offhand, I can't think of a longer 2009. Should be a cellar treasure.

2009 Domaine Faiveley - Les Damodes Nuites St. Georges Premier Cru $79.95 $69.95

Red | Pinot Noir | France | Burgundy | 750ml

A beautiful very dark ruby colour. The expressive nose opens with aromas of black fruits, spices and many fiery notes of grilling or toasting. The attack is full. A good tannic structure and beautiful acidity make this wine powerful and round on the palate.

2009 Domaine La Grand Ribe - Cotes Du Rhone Villages Centenaire
2009 Domaine La Grand Ribe - Cotes Du Rhone Villages Centenaire $18.99 $12.95

Red | Rhone Blend | France | Rhone | 750ml

The blockbuster 2009 Cotes du Rhone-Villages Centenaire tastes more like a Chateauneuf du Pape than a Cotes du Rhone. Dominated by Grenache with a small amount of Syrah included in the blend, the wine possesses great intensity, a terrific texture, full-bodied power, and wonderful purity and Provencal typicity. This sensational effort is filled with red and black fruit, roasted herb, barbecue smoke, meat juice and bouquet garni characteristics. Enjoy it over the next 7-8 years or longer.

2009 Domaine Leflaive - Bourgogne Blanc
2009 Domaine Leflaive - Bourgogne Blanc $69.95 $49.95

White | Burgundy | France | Burgundy | 750ml

A notably ripe nose of pear and lemon nuances gives way to round, delicious and plump middle weight flavors that possess good intensity and good if not special precision on the lightly mineral-infused finish. It possesses lovely acidity and refined balance, with a hushed expression of fruit that is quite attractive at this level.
2009 Domaine Leflaive - Macon Verze White Burgundy
2009 Domaine Leflaive - Macon Verze White Burgundy $49.99 $34.95

White | Chardonnay | France | Burgundy | 750ml

The 2009 vintage is rich, powerful and well-balanced, with a plenty of liveliness and mineral notes. Forward, and fine textured. Apple, pineapple, and a little peach on the nose, with some hints of flint. This had subtle floral and citrus aromas. Medium length, impressive freshness and concentration for a wine at this price.
2009 Domaine Leflaive - Puligny-Montrachet
2009 Domaine Leflaive - Puligny-Montrachet $119.99 $99.95

White | Chardonnay | France | Burgundy | 750ml

"It shows good depth and minerality in a slightly lean, and surprisingly inward style for the year. This is a pretty, understated wine, but there is little of the radiance or exuberance of the year in the glass. The Puligny-Montrachet is made from a number of parcels in the villages that are vinified and aged separately and blended prior to blending." Wine Advocate (88 Points)

"There's plenty of lemon cake, apricot and lemon zest flavors in this white, with a hint of grapefruit. Shows good intensity through the finish." Wine Spectator (89 Points)

2009 Domaine Serene - Pinot Noir Willamette Valley Yamhill Cuvée
2009 Domaine Serene - Pinot Noir Willamette Valley Yamhill Cuvée $49.95 $44.95

Red | Pinot Noir | United States | 750ml

"The Serene 2009 Pinot Noir Yamhill Cuvee offers sweeter red berry flavors than does the corresponding 2010, with brown spice accents and nicely integrated tannic chew. Pure-fruited and with ample finishing juiciness, this betrays none of its vintage’s weak sides and ought to drink well for another several years." Wine Advocate (88 Points)

The Dominus 2009 exemplifies the finest qualities of Cabernet Sauvignon from an ideal vintage. The nose, at once powerful yet restrained, is dense and filled with pure dark berry fruit and hints of sandalwood. On the palate is a harmonious blend of fresh plum and focused minerality with tannins that are firm, round and elegant. Spherical in quality, this wine is complete from start to finish. 2009 DuMOL - Chardonnay Russian River Valley Chloe Vineyard
2009 DuMOL - Chardonnay Russian River Valley Chloe Vineyard $79.95 $69.95

White | Chardonnay | United States | California | 750ml

60% Ritchie, 20% Searby, and 20% Lorenzo vineyards. Wente and Rued clones.

"Ripe apricots, flowers, spices and butterscotch flow from this powerful, authoritative Chardonnay. The weight and richness of these old-vine parcels informs the dense, full-bodied finish. The Chloe is made from parcels in Ritchie, Searby and Lorenzo, with vineyards planted in the 1970s. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2021. This is a very strong set of wines from DuMOL and winemaker Andy Smith. Like so many producers, DuMOL is in the midst of a stylistic shift that began around 2005. Smith described some of the estate’s earlier wines as a bit too heavy. Today’s approach emphasizes picking a bit earlier than in the past and places greater emphasis on complexity, structure and acidity. At times, the malolactic fermentations are blocked. The Chardonnays are barrel fermented and aged in oak (50% new) with all of their lees, but there is no stirring of the lees." Wine Advocate (94 Points)

2009 DuMol - Chardonnay Russian River Valley Clare Vineyard
2009 DuMol - Chardonnay Russian River Valley Clare Vineyard $79.95 $69.95

White | Chardonnay | United States | California | 750ml

"The 2009 Chardonnay Clare Hyde Vineyard is a beautiful, focused wine. It possesses the textural richness that is typical of this site, but with quite a bit of minerality and freshness as well. Clean saline notes frame the nicely delineated finish. This parcel was planted with Wente clones 17 years ago. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2021." Wine Advocate (92 Points)

2009 DuMol - Chardonnay Russian River Valley Isobel Vineyard
2009 DuMol - Chardonnay Russian River Valley Isobel Vineyard $79.95 $69.95

White | Chardonnay | United States | California | 750ml

"The 2009 Chardonnay Isobel Charles Heintz Vineyard is a cool, vibrant wine loaded with tons of minerality. Despite its freshness and vibrancy, the fruit is quite extroverted. Mango, white flowers, tangerine and pistachio are layered into the energetic, pointed finish. Exotic floral notes linger in the empty glass. This is another highly expressive Chardonnay from DuMOL. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2019." Wine Advocate (92 Points)

"Firm, intense and chewy, at points rustic and edgy, this manages to deliver a tight, potent, concentrated mix of dried berry, pomegranate, black licorice and cedar flavors. Ends with gritty tannins." Wine Spectator (90 Points)
