Nicolas Catena Zapata is made from a selection of the best lots in the Catena Zapata vineyards. The first Nicolas Catena Zapata was made in 1997, a phenomenal Cabernet Sauvignon vintage in Mendoza. The first vintage was released in 2000 through a series of blind tastings held in the USA and Europe where it was compared to Chateau Latour, Haut Brion, Solaia, Caymus and Opus One. The Nicolas Catena Zapata 1997 came in either first of second in every tasting. This wine is only produced in outstanding vintage years and has received high acclaim from top wine publications and experts.

"The 1999 Brut Cuvee Sir Winston Churchill, from magnum, is wonderfully rich and expansive, proving yet again just how well suited the big bottle is to Champagne. Smoke, peaches, mint and flowers are just some of the nuances that flow from this textured kaleidoscopic Champagne. The wine continues to gain focus and breadth through to the enticing, brilliant finish. Disgorged July, 2009. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2030." Wine Advocate (94 Points)

"Subtle, with hints of ripe apple, almond paste, white peach and honey. There's a smoky mineral baseline, and though well- integrated the acidity is lightly chalky on the fine- grained palate. 500 cases imported." Wine Spectator (93 Points)

1999 Salon - Brut Blanc de Blancs Champagne Le Mesnil
1999 Salon - Brut Blanc de Blancs Champagne Le Mesnil $349.99 $299.95

Sparkling | Champagne | France | 750ml

Salon is one of the great names in Champagne for a very good reason. It is made only in great vintages (the decade of the eighties only produced '82,'83,'85 and '88) and only from grapes from one site, the grand cru of Mesnil. This village grows the most sought after Chardonnay in Champagne. The 1999 Brut Blanc de Blancs is impenetrable. This is a massive, full-bodied Salon that totally saturates the palate with fruit. Neither as austere or pointed as the 1996, nor as open as the 1997, instead the 1999 comes across as big, rich and powerful. There is little in the way of flavor or aromatic development, and it may be some time before any real complexity develops in bottle. Today it looks like the wine’s best days are well off into the future The production hovers around 8,000 six-bottle cases, so the wine is always hard to come by but very worth seeking out!  Anticipated maturity: 2019-2039.
