Agrapart was founded in 1894 in the Grand Cru village of Avize. Agrapart's rose is based on the Cuvee Terroirs (am Extra Brut Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs), with the addition of still Pinot Noir from the village of Cumieres purchased from René Geoffroy. Expect a younger-styled rose that leans toward elegance, light body, verve and structure and on the dry side as Agrapart imparts a light dosage.

This multi-vintage wine is composed from the harvests of 2009 and 2008 aged in oak barrels and blended from seven villages in the Cote de Blancs and Vallee de le Marne. The base wines undergo malelactic fermentation and age on the lees for 3 years and are stirred manually. The dosage is limited to a light 7g of sugar.

"Pale gold with a strong bead. Lively lemon, quince and honeysuckle on the nose, with a nervy underpinning of minerals. A brisk and finely etched blanc de blancs, offering clean citrus and orchard fruit flavors along with subtle anise and floral qualities. Golden yellow hues, with notes of grapefruit, apricot, and fruit compote. It’s a fine wine with a well-balanced and bold finish. This Riesling will pair beautifully well with poultry, smoked fish, raw fish (sashimi and sushi), as well as crawfish and lobster.

The 2009 Charmes-Chambertin emerges from the glass with lovely radiance and openness in its ripe, juicy fruit. The Charmes is already rather forward, and at this stage appears to be a relatively early-maturing wine. The oak is also a bit pronounced. Sweet, textured floral notes wrap around the long, polished finish. Rousseau’s Charmes is technically 60% Mazoyeres. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2029.

The 2009 Gevrey-Chambertin is pure silk on the palate. Layers of flavor emerge gracefully from this weightless, totally refined wine. A model of understated elegance, the Gevrey makes a great introduction to the wines of Eric Rousseau.

Brightly redolent of fresh red currant and blackberry, accompanied by Lapsang tea, fennel, and maritime suggestions of brine and alkali, Rousseau’s 2008 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Cazetiers displays incipient creaminess, but at the same time, tartness on the palate, with an invigorating sense of fruit skin and fine-grained tannins that lead to a finish of impressive grip. Like the corresponding Lavaux St.-Jacques, this is refreshing but short on richness, and the superior smell in the empty glass confirms the degree to which it is presently a bit reduced. And here too, I can envision 8-10 years of interesting evolution.
