The entry onto the palate is smooth and fruit driven, which accelerates through to a midpalate burst of energy from the firm lively acidity with a lingering mouth-watering finish.

A high-flying white Sancerre. Family Mellot has long been recognized for the quality of its white Sancerre but also contributes to the success of any name. Known for the latter wine, Domaine La Moussi?re wanted to acclaim at Sauvignon Blanc, here is a beautiful illustration: Notes of beeswax, gingerbread, lemon menthol and toasted hazelnut and a wonderfully dynamic mouth, thirst-quenching . This wine is powerful and fine, caught in the duality wealth / firmness. The appearance is Pale gold yellow in colour with light green sheen - brilliant, lively and clear - a mature appearance. Mature and fresh nose. Finely expressed lemon scented honeydew, with hints of menthol, acacia then dried fruits, St George's mushrooms from meadows and iodised mineral. When opened hints of beeswax, gingerbread and menthol lemon appear. Full, fresh, rich and virile taste. An honest effect covered with mellowness well combined with acidity and halfway through it is joined by toasted nuts.The rich finish explodes in a hint of freshness accentuating the iodised mineral, Muscat and boxtree. Slight plant bitterness is mixed with long lasting quality. When older, it should change into terpenic aromas, white truffles on honeyed hazelnut background. A powerful fine wine, with dual complex / solidity and change / freshness.

Picked predominantly over 10 days from October 14, the 2010 d'Yquem has 141gms/L residual sugar and pH 3.80. It is a slow-burner, the nose understated at first but unfurling with each passing moment with subtle scents of freshly sliced apricots, Clementine, clear honey and white flowers. There is an underlying minerality that really defines this bouquet. The palate is similar to the nose, revealing hidden facets with almost each swirl of the glass – orange blossom, limestone, white peach and honeysuckle. This is such a precise d'Yquem; it is after you have swallowed the wine that one comprehends just how brilliant it is.

The palate is very well-balanced with a lively entry of apricot, quince and a touch of hazelnut. The middle and finish demonstrate fine tension and a lot of freshness. Individual lots seemed to have more race than the final sample, and I suspect it will warrant a higher score once the final blend is in bottle.

Golden syrup and perhaps a tad lack of acidity. Round and gingery and lilies. Maybe very slightly over the top but no-one could accuse this of being too fresh and lean! Wonderful unctuousness - though taken to the limits of ripeness. As I say, I'd like just a little more acidity. Great richness on the nose.

This has quite a bit of sulphur on the nose at first, but it clears with aeration. It remains tightly-coiled, with lemon, honey, apricot and limestone, demonstrating fine minerality. The palate has great tension on the entry, quite spicy and nutty in style, with a vibrant, zesty finish. This is an exuberant Sigalas-Rabaud with great potential.
