Beringer Winery
Jacob Beringer left his home in Germany, in 1868, for the sunny shores of California where the soil and climate was perfectly suited for growing wine grapes. In 1870, Napa Valley was his final destination where he bought land with his brother Frederick, in 1875, and they began producing wines that were on the same level as the first-class wines that Jacob had developed in Europe. Beringer Winery was founded in 1876. Chinese workers were employed to hand-chisel rock tunnels that were to be used for the storage and aging of wines. Though these tunnels took many years to complete, they turned out to be an excellent facility till date. Beringer Vineyards continue to house and age fine wines today, in these fantastic tunnels built years ago.

Now in its third century of crafting classic wines from Napa’s finest appellations and vineyards, Beringer today is guided by the inspired partnership of celebrated Winemaster Emeritus Ed Sbragia and Winemaker Laurie Hook. Together, they craft Napa Valley wines that speak eloquently of the rich heritage of the  Beringer Vineyard, while offering cutting-edge quality and contemporary elegance.

Distinctive quality that can only be created from the rustic, unspoiled vineyards and unique alluvial soils that make up Sonoma’s Knights Valley. Located 17 miles northwest of the winery, the Knights Valley vineyard has volcanic, well-drained soils that are perfectly suited to Cabernet Sauvignon.

Wine Advocate 91+ Points: Beringer’s 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon (Knights Valley) is endowed with serious minerality and tension. Firm tannins support an expressive core of dark red fruit, grilled herbs, asphalt and savory herbs, all of which come to life in a vibrant Cabernet Sauvignon long on personality and character. This is a serious wine for the money. Like so many wines in this vintage, it has tons of energy and vibrancy. If opened within the next few years, the 2010 is likely to require decanting to open up. The blend is 93% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Merlot and 3% Cabernet Franc. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2020.

James Suckling:  "The 2010 vintage is clearly a great vintage, with dozens of exceptional wines. Some of the baby reds are chateaux's best ever, or best in decades. They will be must buys for Bordeaux lovers around the world."

Stephen Spurrier, Decanter Magazine:  “2010, the greatest Bordeaux vintage in modern times….”  and "Producers and critics are resisting saying 'best ever', but this focused, serious, age-worthy vintage ... is drawing comparisons to 1982 and even 1947."

James Molesworth Wine Spectator: Gave the vintage 95-98 points and called it an "Exceptional Vintage"
