Clarence Dillon
In 1934, Mr. Clarence Dillon, the eminent international financier, visited Bordeaux. These were difficult times for the major world economies'. Bordeaux had not been spared by the depression and many of the most renowned vineyards of the region were for sale. Among these featured the illustrious First Growth, Chateau Haut-Brion.

Clarence Dillon was a man of many passions that ranged from farming and specialist animal breeding (including cattle, dogs, fowl) to hunting on horseback, ornithology, photography, architecture, garden design and botany. All of these interests came after his first two primary passions which were without a doubt his family and his business, Dillon Read.

What all of these interests had in common was the fact that Clarence Dillon invested himself wholeheartedly in his endeavours until these reached the zenith of their potential.

In Chateau Haut-Brion, Clarence Dillon found not only the charm of a n elegant and fabled estate, but also the opportunity of a lifetime. He discovered a tarnished jewel.

Chateau Haut-Brion and the world of wine became part of the family culture. Improvements were always dictated by passion for perfection rather than financial returns.

It is thanks to these many improvements and innovations, as well as the great men and women who instituted them, that Chateau Haut-Brion was able to remain worthy of its noble heritage. In 1983 the Dillon family also acquired the neighbouring estate of Chateau La Mission Haut-Brion.

Seventy years after the arrival of Clarence Dillon in Bordeaux, his great-grandson, Prince Robert of Luxembourg, has opened a new chapter in the Dillon family story in Bordeaux, by creating Clarence Dillon Wines.

The name Clarendelle takes its inspiration in that of Mr. Clarence Dillon and aims to be true to the heritage of perfection which this great man instituted in his family.

Clarendelle's name thus pays homage to the ancestor who brought the family to this region. In creating Clarendelle the team from Clarence Dillon Wines and their colleagues at Domaine Clarence Dillon, wish to discover and extract the best from the enormous potential and savoir-faire that this region and terroir provide. They already benefit from centuries of acquired knowledge and will aim to produce wines worthy and representative of their heritage and provenance.

It is produced in the same spirit as the wines of Domaine Clarence Dillon. The same teams that are in charge for Clarendelle wines, also oversee the estates and vinification of the fabled First Growth Haut Brion as well as the only property of size that over the centuries has consistently rivaled the first growths both in quality and price; Chateau La Mission Haut-Brion.

Words from Prince Robert:

The name, Clarendelle, is first and foremost inspired by that of Clarence Dillon, my great-grandfather, who set the foundation for our family's presence in the unique region of the south-west of France. This homage shows both our family's commitment to our new wines as well as our guarantee of quality to what may be Bordeaux's first true Premium range of brand wines.

Clarendelle is also a reference to the word "Claret" and more particularly to "New French Claret", a style of wine that was born on our estate, Chateau Haut-Brion, in the 1600s. Clarendelle, through our family's history, owes its existence to our estate wines and will always be inspired by their example.

Finally, the name Clarendelle, with its French consonance and femininity pays tribute to a love affair between our family and a grand lady who has played hostess to us for over seventy years. We refer of course to France, a nation which continues to inspire and seduce generations of Dillon family members through its people and through the great richness of her culture which seem to find their perfect expression in the elegance and diversity of her wines.

Clarendelle's style and structure represent elegance, complexity and balance. Clarendelle strives for "tipicitee" or a style representative of its roots. Our red and white wines are the fruits of an "assemblage" which mirror the marriages of grape varietals found in our estate wines. As is the case for all of our chateaux, Clarendelle's characteristics will vary somewhat from vintage to vintage. But then, that is the prerogative of Mother Nature! It will be the responsibility of our wine-making team to assure the regularity of Clarendelle's quality and style while producing blends that are true to their vintage. We are delighted by the way that Clarendelle has been received by wine professionals the world over.

Bordeaux remains the reference for quality wine throughout the world. Bordeaux offers both an exceptional terroir and a significant brain pool of qualified and passionate people. Clarendelle's success will be rooted in the same foundation that has assured the quality of our estate wines for centuries'. Our wines are crafted by men and women of integrity who share our passion and vision.

We believe that wine lovers are seeking names that they can trust which offer an alternative to existing "new world brands". Clarendelle offers an old world response to a new world creation. Although the inspiration and style of our wines are firmly anchored in tradition, we are confident that Clarendelle responds to a growing desire of wine lovers who seek wines that are elegant and a joy to drink !

Clarendelle Bordeaux Pessac Leognan 2008
Merlot 49% , Cabernet Sauvignon 32% , Cabernet Franc 17%, Petit Verdot 2%

100% of the fruit are from the vineyards of Chateau Haut- Brion and La Mission Haut-Brion.
Clarendelle Pessac-Léognan Red 2008 is a classic wine, dense, rich and built. The color is intense. The complex nose of red and black fruits, fruity and fresh. On the palate , we find spicy and mineral. The wine is fleshy, full and delicious, with velvety tannins. The finish is long and aromatic promising.

Clarendelle Rouge 2006
Merlot: 67%, Cabernet Sauvignon: 32%,  Cabernet Franc: 1%
The wines have a striking, almost brilliant red colour. The nose is still rather closed at the present time, but shows powerful red fruit aromas. There are also overtones of blackcurrant, blackberry, fig, and hazelnut. The Cabernets had a fine colour as well as fresh, subtle fruit. The blend includes some from the Médoc as well. The wine starts out quite vivacious, going on to reveal smooth tannin. The Merlot once again provides good structure because the tannin has considerable character, but is delicate and non-astringent. The balance is fresh and attractive, altogether in Clarendelle’s signature style.

Clarendelle Bordeaux Blanc 2012
71 % Sémillon, 24 % Sauvignon blanc, 5 % Muscadelle
Beautiful pale yellow colour. Very rich and round on the palate with mineral overtones. After fairly quick fermentation, the Sauvignon Blanc expressed intense tropical fruit and citrus (grapefruit) aromas, whereas the Sémillon and Muscadelle were more floral, with rose nuances. Ageing on the lees toned down the acidity and gave a certain richness and length to the wine, while maintaining freshness. The balance is perfect, with a great deal of finesse and elegance. A wonderful vintage for dry white Bordeaux!
