"An example is certainly the 2005 Axios. One-hundred percent Cabernet Sauvignon, this wine is concentrated, still young, but with terrific density, richness, and concentration, although still playing it close to the vest. Opaque purple in color, with plenty of creme de cassis, licorice, and subtle smoke and earth, the wine is full-bodied, beautifully pure and layered, but one can sense that most of the nuances and complexity have still not emerged. This wine is “locked and loaded,” as they say, and 2-3 more years of bottle age will be enormously beneficial for it. It should drink well for two decades. A brilliant success in the vintage!" "It has an unashamedly opulent bouquet of primal, ripe, boysenberry, mulberry, dark chocolate and crushed violets that blossom with aeration. The palate is full-bodied with crisp acidity cutting through the pure blackberry and cassis fruit. It has wonderful focus and intensity, though the finish demonstrates convincing composure. This is an outstanding Gran Reserva whose silky texture will instantly win you over. Drink 2013-2030+." Wine Advocate 95 Points

#28 Wine Spectator Top 100 of 2008Black in color, with aromas of orange peel, new leather, currant, berry and Christmas pudding. Full-bodied, with layers of velvety tannins and a long, long finish of fruit and spices. The cashmere texture is all there. 2003 plus 2000 equals 2005.

"The 2005 Montrose is an exceptionally tannic, broodingly backward offering displaying a dense ruby/purple color along with a provocative perfume of crushed rocks, flowers, cassis, black raspberries, and blueberries. It continues to add weight and richness, good traits considering the substantial, forbiddingly high tannin levels and zesty acidity. If you are over the age of fifty, this backward, powerful wine will probably be more enjoyable to your descendants. Anticipated maturity: 2020-2040+" Wine Advocate (95 Points)

A great example of an appellation punching above its weight, from a truly great vintage. 2005 yielded grapes of perfect ripeness so there was wonderful consistency amongst the wines of the region across all price points. This wine exhibits juicy, lush, plummy characteristics, backed by fine-grained tannins, and has surprising complexity on the finish. Try it with grilled lamb or lightgame dishes.

The 2005 Vintage marks the 31st release of Artist Series Cabernet Sauvignon from Kenwood Vineyards. The harvest produced a bountiful crop of Cabernet Sauvignon with a distinctly rich and complex flavor that is followed by spicy and aromatic notes. After picking, the grapes were crushed and fermented in stainless steel tanks and then settled and racked twice before going down to barrels in December of 2005. After 29 months of barrel aging the very best lots were carefully selected and then blended and bottled. After bottling, the wine was aged for an additional year and a half before it was released. The 2005 Artist Series Cabernet Sauvignon is a luscious wine with great depth and focused tannins. It exhibits complex aromas of cassis, tea leaves and a hint of licorice. The wine is ready for enjoyment now but its full-bodied flavor will allow it to improve for many, many years.

Ramey’s 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon is a spherical wine with all of its elements in place. White flowers, cloves and asphalt all develop later, lending an element of exoticism that is simply compelling. The 2010 is a blend of valley floor and hillside fruit.
