The 2019 Martinet Bru was also bottled and ready for tasting, so I tasted it next to the 2018. The only difference is that this year they used a small amount of very young Garnacha. 2019 was a warmer and drier year than 2018. The fruit ripened earlier and shows explosive. It's a year of generous expression—a positive, happy year. The wine is immediate, approachable and gentle, with very fine tannins.
Saturated ruby. A highly perfumed, smoke- and spice-accented bouquet evokes primary cherry and blueberry scents, along with candied licorice and potpourri nuances. Seamless and impressively concentrated, offering appealingly sweet dark berry, cherry cola and floral pastille flavors that meld richness and energy. Dusty tannins build steadily on a long, gently chewy finish that leaves cherry liqueur and lavender notes behind.
This glossy red bursts with bright, pure cherry and currant notes lined with floral, licorice and mountain herb details. Accents of tea, spice and mineral slide into the finish. Grenache, Syrah, Carignan, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon.
