The D.O.C "Lujan de Cuyo" was created in 1989 with the objective of protecting and regulating the Malbec variety which is native to this region. As it happens with the most demanding denominations in the world, wine with the certification DOC, Lujan De Cuyo must comply with strict protocol that begins at the vineyard and finishes when final product is bottled. All the grapes used for this Malbec come from the Vistalba Estate. The wine shows an intense shade of violet, ripe cherry and plum aromas. It is spiced with traces of mocha and blackberries. It is delicately perfumed and has a long elegant sweetness. Currently managed by the third and fourth generations of the Arizu family, Alberto Jr and Alberto Sr., it is one of the few winemaking firms that is still owned by its founders. Its reputation, gained over the years, has made it the paradigm of Argentine wine. The Arizu Family has always worked in the search of the ultimate expression of Argentine wine. Their perpetual search for excellence is exemplified through Mendoza’s unique terroir, innovation, dynamism and state-of-the art winemaking techniques. As a tribute to the land and to those who work it, they have worked more than 110 years to understand the intention of the vine. The passion of four generations of the same family, shown in Bodega Luigi Bosca’s collection, reflects the result of an ambitious effort started many years ago; the wish to express the essence of Argentine wine. Continuous innovation and an unwavering work spirit have allowed Luigi Bosca to achieve a solid position in worldwide markets. Over the last 15 years, they have strongly consolidated their leading position offering products with a personality and a style of their own that reflect the essence of Mendoza’s terroir, and their regional style, people and culture. In fact Luigi Bosca collaborated actively to create the Lujan de Cuyo Denomination of Origin. Luigi Bosca Malbec D.O.C is, the first D.O.C. established in Argentina, proudly bringing it into line with other D.O.C.’s worldwide. Luigi Bosca owns seven vineyards and over 700 hectares, located throughout the province of Mendoza. Located in the prime growing areas of Maipu, Tupungato and Lujan de Cuyo, they are named Los Nobles, La Linda, La España, Don Leoncio, El Paraíso, La Puntilla and Los Miradores. Each vineyard is carefully planted with grapes that are best suited to that vineyard’s terroir. The different varieties of vines planted in these areas were brought from Europe towards the end of the 19th century. Consequently, today’s vineyards are the result of a careful selection of the old family vines, which underwent a slow process of adaptation to harsh environmental demands. During this period, the cross-breeding of numerous grape varieties was encouraged, reinforcing the unique personal character of the vineyards. Mendoza’s desert climate, with its wide thermal amplitude of cold nights and hot days, amplifies the aromatics and color in the wine while the alluvial deposits in the soil add minerality and depth. Bodega Luigi Bosca embraces the philosophy of bio-dynamics and biodiversity. It is their belief that the principals followed in biodynamics helps grapes to reach their full potential by empowering the plant to defend herself, strengthen the roots and then be harvested when the moon is waxing to optimize the fruit’s potential. Finally it is their belief that biodiversity in the ecosystem further enriches the vineyards full potential by adding other plants such as olive and chestnut trees that compliment and coexist with the vines.
