Red | Syrah | France | Rhone | 750ml
"Rich and dense, but velvety and nicely detailed, with sleek-edged cassis, blackberry and plum fruit woven with white pepper, mulled spice and dark olive notes. A strong, tangy, iron edge takes over on the finish, with lots of latent grip. Best from 2013 through 2022. Only 900 Cases Produced." Wine Spectator 93 Points"As for the negociant northern Rhone selections, the dense purple-hued 2009 Cote Rotie reveals lots of black olive, bacon fat, black raspberry and blackberry fruit notes intertwined with hints of charcoal and underbrush. The Collines Rhodanienne VdP is a term used voluntarily by growers in the Nothern Cotes du Rhone to produce a differing criteria of the AOC. In Francois instance, this wine comes from vineyards in a non-classified vineyard north of Cote Rotie around the city of Vienne. The vineyards where the fruit for this delicious Syrah are located around the municipalities of Vienne and Seyssuel. Back in Roman times, this area was known for producing the highest quality and most expensive wines of the region. Producers like Francois Villard and Yves Cuilleron have now been making wines from this region for several years, helping in the rediscovery of this area. Medium garnet in color. In the nose, there are aromas of blackberry, wet mushrooms, fat and cold cuts. The wine is dry, medium bodied with very good acidity. Drink now through 2018. #58 Wine Spectator Top 100 Wines of 2012 Wine Spectator 91 PointsGlass-staining ruby. Aromas of dark berries, licorice and smoky spices, with a floral nuance gaining strength with air. Juicy, focused and nicely concentrated, offering hefty cassis and bitter cherry flavors brightened by a cracked pepper quality. A smoky note comes up on the long, spice-dominated finish. "The 2010 Heart Stone Vineyard opens with a dark, brooding nose redolent of smoke, tar, incense and licorice. Elements of dark, inward fruit continue to build in the glass. There is an exotic element in the Heart Stone that is undeniably appealing. Layers of fruit crescendo to the huge, towering finish.[...]" Wine Advocate (95-97)

"Inky ruby. Powerful aromas of cherry-cola, blackberry, smoky minerals and violet, with a sexy oak spice nuance in the background. Lush and creamy on the palate, offering sweet, deeply concentrated dark berry flavors and a refreshing jolt of smoky minerals. Finishes bright and delineated, with lingering notes of cinnamon and candied flowers." International Wine Cellar (94)
Bright red-ruby. Blackberry, licorice, wild herb and violet aromas are complemented by strong mineral notes of flint and crushed rock, with a faint meaty quality emerging with air. Dense on entry, then tightly coiled and powerful in the mid-palate, displaying superb definition and lift to its dark berry, floral, black pepper and mineral flavors. Taut in an almost Hermitage way, although this wine suggests limestone in the soil rather than granite. The very long, rising, slow-to-unfold finish suggests that this extremely primary syrah should expand with bottle age and develop gracefully. Tannins are extremely fine-grained, with the slowly building finish leaving the mouth perfumed. This wine impressed me when I first tried it several months ago, and it was even tighter then. From the Estates Oldest Vines. Only 950 Cases Produced. Stephen Tanzer International Wine Cellar 93 Points The 2010 Syrah Originals boasts gorgeous mid-palate pliancy in its expressive varietal fruit. This is another sleek, pretty wine. Bright medium ruby. Scented, high-pitched, very pure nose offers blackberry, exotic spices, flinty minerality and a whiff of meat. Densely packed and seamless but also sharply delineated, with a saline, smoky minerality and a bit of oak influence partly hiding the wine's inherent sweetness of fruit. Dry, meaty, classic syrah with a wonderfully chewy, palate-saturating finish. Showed increasing pliancy and nuance as it opened in the glass.
Ripe Plum, sangre-iron, with hints of oak; this wine reminds me that I am a carnivore. Despite being rich and lavish, there is energy in this wine that makes me want to tear into some flesh.
