91WA Foxglove Chardonnay $12.98/cs Spectacular Bargain

We have a Spectacular Bargain from the Varner Family who produce handmade, low production, super high quality Santa Cruz appellation Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Foxglove is the second label from the talented Bob and Jim Varner. These wines have been raved about by wine critics for their remarkable quality and value. This just received a huge score of 91 points by Wine Advocate and we have a Special Price of $13.98 and Special Case Price of $12.98 each. This is truly one of great values from California.

"These are absolutely spectacular bargains from the very high-quality Varner Winery in the Santa Cruz Mountains. This is their less expensive line-up of wines, and I encourage readers to try them – they are true winners." – Robert Parker

The 2011 Chardonnay is a beauty, as well as an absurd value. Very clean and lively, with classic Chardonnay notes of juiced apple, citrus and minerality, it is clean and focused on the palate with the richness of the variety, yet also beautiful precision and focus. Classy and well-made, without any apparent oak, it should be purchased by the case and consumed over the coming 2-3 years. Drink now-2016 Wine Advocate 91 Points

Foxglove Winery
At the core of Foxglove are Bob and Jim Varner. Bob is also the winemaker at Varner Wines. Beginning with their first vintage in 1991, Bob sources the wine from a variety of places, all of which are in Edna Valley. The resulting wine has Central Coast appellation pricing, and is full of complex fruit flavors that the Edna Valley appellation is known for.

Bob makes Foxglove in a modern style that’s meant to bring out the true terroir of an appellation (in the case of the Cabernet Sauvignon, the fruit comes from carefully selected vineyards in Paso Robles that capture all the warmth of the area, but have none of the sappy, over ripe flavors often associated with Paso Robles). In both the Foxglove Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon he adds the same quality standards and attention to detail for Foxglove that he puts into every barrel of single vineyard Varner wine.

Foxglove wines have not had tartaric acid additions, water added, reverse osmosis or any other non-natural technique often found in wines at this price. He transmits the flavor and purity of the appellation in a fruit forward, approachable style. Foxglove's flavor profile has a balance between fruit, freshness and concentration, and above all, it delivers the same commitment to quality found in Varner Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.

Foxglove Chardonnay Central Coast 2011

Perhaps the great value in Chardonnay in the market- place today, this wine, made by the highly talented Varner Winery in the Santa Cruz Mountains, comes from fruit accessed in California’s Edna Valley.

Can't forget about the Cab!

Huge Value for a great drinking Cabernet from Paso Robles all for $13.98 and a Special Case Price of $12.98.

Foxglove Cabernet Sauvignon Paso Robles 2011
Wine Advocate 89 Points: The 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon possesses a perfumed, elegant personality with plenty of ripe herbs, black raspberry, black currant, lead pencil and cedar flowing to a medium-bodied, supple and polished Cabernet Sauvignon that has sweet tannin and good overall depth and richness. It’s not a blockbuster, but has beautiful Cabernet typicity. Enjoy it over the coming 4-5 years. Drink now-2019

Antonio Galloni  "The 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon is gorgeous. Dark cherries, mocha, grilled herbs, smoke and tobacco all burst from the glass in this beautiful, expressive, unoaked Cabernet. The 2011 is naturally a bit less exuberant than some previous years, but all the elements are nicely balanced just the same. Once again, Bob and Jim Varner have produced one of the most delicious value-priced Cabernets in California. In 2011, the harvest stretched into November, which is virtually unheard for Cabernet Sauvignon."
