Super Premium Napa Wine Selections for Father's Day

We don't often like to advertise the uber expensive wines of Napa, but with these iconic labels and stunningly complex wines, we think we have found some liquid gold worthy of long cellaring or for exceptional drinking pleasure now. Father’s Day is almost here so these can also make the perfect gift!

2018 Raymond Reserve Selection Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley, 14.5% ABV, 92 Points Wine Advocate & Vinous, Organic & Biodynamic

THE BEST-SELLER OF THE BUNCH

Among our best-selling and long-time customer favorites, you cannot miss this label on our shelves. Combining some of the best fruit from organic and biodynamically-farmed vineyards from Oakville, Rutherford and St. Helena and select hillside vineyards, the winemaking team here creates a powerhouse of a Napa Cabernet at a simply unbeatable price. Deep garnet-purple colored, it delivers scents of blackcurrant, redcurrant jelly and Morello cherry with hints of dried Provence herbs, pencil shavings and dark chocolate. Full-bodied, the palate is jam-packed with crunchy black fruits, supported by firm, fine-grain tannins and bold freshness with a long finish.

2004 Freemark Abbey Cabernet Bosché, Rutherford, Napa Valley, 13.8% ABV, 88% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Merlot, 94+ Points Wine Advocate, VERY LIMITED

There’s Cabernet Sauvignon… and then there’s Cabernet Bosché, one of the most impressive wines of this excellent Napa vintage. The Bosché vineyard is located on deep, gravelly soils in the famous Rutherford bench so the grapes are perfectly suited to this soil and attain optimal ripeness under the extremely watchful eye of the winemaker. The wine was aged for 24 months in 100% new French oak and has been gracefully aged in bottled since then. This wine did not even require decanting when we tasted from the Coravin; it was already showing such remarkable aromatic complexity and finesse. Packed with beautiful aromatics and flavors of cola, cedarwood, black currants, and black cherries, the palate is sublime and long-lasting, with smooth tannins and moderate acidity- all excellent indicators that the wine has aged exceptionally well and will hold for another ten years. This is quite possibly one of the best wines my staff and I have tasted in months.

2018 PlumpJack Merlot, Napa Valley, 15% ABV, 95 Points Jeb Dunnuck

Merlots gets a bad rap and they really shouldn't. This is, without a doubt, one of the best Merlots around and will immediately make you think you're drinking a structured Cabernet. Coming from a single vineyard in the Oak Knoll District of Napa, this Merlot shows a stunning deep ruby color with incredible aromatics ranging from boysenberry jam, an impressive array of red fruit and plum, vanilla, cardamom, and nutmeg. With naturally high acidity, complex fruit and structure, this wine screams for a juicy burger.

2014 Heritance Cabernet Sauvignon, Beckstoffer George III Vineyard, Rutherford, Napa Valley, 14.4% ABV, 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, 92 Points Wine Enthusiast

Brace yourselves for an unforgettable sipping experience from one of the most historic vineyard sites in the USA. The Beckstoffer Georges III Vineyard is a 300-acre site in the middle of Rutherford and was home to the BV Private Reserve Cabernets of Andre Tchelistcheff which became the pre-eminent wines of the region, launching Napa wines into wide acclaim in the 1960s and 1970s. The vineyard has been owned by the Beckstoffer family since 1988 and is now exclusively farmed for agricultural purposes only, using the most advanced trellising systems, new Cabernet clones, and with tighter-spacing, all of which have enhanced grape tonnage and quality. Heritance is a special release from this vineyard and is a relatively new project started by the Taub Family where they pay tribute to the heritage of the great winemaking practices of this region as well as to their family's inheritance of these great vineyards- four generations in the making. 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from a four acre plot, aged in 75% French oak for twenty months, this wine is dense, powerful, and packed with black cherry, blackberry, anise, dark chocolate, and coconut shavings. A giant for now, it will continue to develop for the next 10+ years.

2014 Cardinale Napa Valley Red Wine, 88% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Merlot, 98 Points Wine Advocate

To finish our Napa selections, we tell a story of the mountain fruit of Napa Valley and depart from the valley floor. Cardinale is a masterful blend from some of the top mountain vineyard sites in Napa, from Diamond Mountain District, Howell Mountain, Mount Veeder, and to Spring Mountain District. Winemaker Christopher Carpenter picks only the best fruit from these sites, barrels each site separately, ages the wine in mostly new French oak for almost two years, and only uses his best barrels as the baseline for this wine; he does not create the blend at the beginning of the maturation as the wine develops even more nuance and complexity from these sites over time in barrel. The result is absolutely stunning. Since the first vintage in 2001, Cardinale consistently ranks among the top wines of the Napa Valley and the 2014 is the highest-scored vintage from Wine Advocate to date. The wine rewards patience and is built to age for nearly twenty years.
